Our Story
The Craigavon Compassion Project story began when a few local people decided to collaborate together to find solutions to the problem of food poverty in the Craigavon area.
We have been a registered charity since 2016 and since then, have developed three different projects to not just tackle the immediate need around hunger, but to also help bring an end to the cycle of poverty so many people find themselves in.
It is our belief that no one should live in fear or with the stigma of hunger, unsure of where their next meal might come from.
Craigavon Area Foodbank
In the last 12 months, we have provided 5,525 people with emergency food parcels so that they don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from during a time of crisis.
While we are able to support a lot of families and individuals, demand for support has grown by 8% during 2023/2024 and by 61% over the last 5 years.
It is our hope that we don’t just help someone in a time of crisis, but that we are able to provide long term support when needed. We do this to ensure that the root causes of the crisis can be dealt with from our support team, and other experienced partner organisations.
Since launching the Food Bank we have learnt a lot. Not only about what causes poverty, but how poverty affects people.
Welcome and Wellness
Our Welcome & Wellness project was launched in January 2024 to help walk alongside those needing additional support such as debt advice, CV writing to improve employability, skills training to reduce isolation and loneliness as well as dedicated one-to-one, customisable support.
Through this provision, we are able to help those we work with to get back on their feet, address the direct causes of any crisis and together with them, see the cycle of poverty broken.
ABC Food Hub
The ABC Food Hub is our creative solution to not only save good food from going to landfill, but to also help provide these food items to local community groups, charities, Breakfast Clubs and other Food Banks who can provide it to those who need it most.
With over 48 tonnes of food saved from landfill every year and redistributed to the ABC Council Area, we are able to ensure that we not only help feed those who need support the most, but that we protect our environment and planet as well.
If you would like to learn more about the work of Craigavon Compassion Project, we would love to grab a coffee and see how together, we might help end poverty for those in our community.
